Privacy Policy
The short version. Birdie Bank keeps score and tracks friendly bets for your golf group. We collect only what the app needs to do that. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we never hold or move money.
This policy explains what Birdie Bank ("we," "us") collects when you use the app at birdie-bank.vercel.app, how we use it, and the choices you have. Birdie Bank is run by Trevor Nielsen. Questions go to design@trevornielsen.com.
What we collect
What you enter in the app.
- Your name and handicap index, and the names, handicap indexes and optional Venmo usernames of the players you add.
- Rounds: the course, tees, games, stakes, scores, bets, presses and results.
- Payments you record between players, and your crews, custom courses and settings.
Your account, if you sign in. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile picture from Google. We don't receive your Google password or anything else from your Google account.
Suggestions and bug reports. What you write, any photo you attach (like a scorecard or screenshot), an optional email for a reply, and details that help us fix problems: your device type and browser, screen size, and the round you had open.
Your location, only if you ask. When you tap "Courses near me," your phone asks whether to share your location. If you allow it, the app sends your position to BigDataCloud to find the nearest town, then searches our course database for that town. Your position isn't sent to our servers or saved to your account. The courses found, and your position to about 100 yards, stay on your device for a day so the app doesn't have to look again.
Crash reports. When something in the app breaks, it can send us a report so we can fix it: the error and where in the app's code it happened, the screen's address without anything after the "?", which version of the app you have, and your browser, operating system and device type. Reports never include your name, email, the players or courses in your rounds, scores, amounts or anything you typed, and never a recording of your screen.
Usage counts. The app counts a few moments, like opening the app, starting and finishing a round, making a plan, finishing setup, seeing the Pro screen and choosing a plan, and sending a payment request. Each count carries only details like which game, how many holes and players, how many days since you last opened the app, and which payment app. Never names, emails, courses, scores or amounts. Counts are tied to a random id made on your phone, or, if you sign in, to a scrambled version of your account id that can't be turned back into your email. We don't record your screen or what you tap or type.
Which link you came from. If you first opened the app from a link with a creator's code in it (like a video's link), the app keeps that code and the page you landed on, so we know which creators send people our way. It goes with the usage counts, and if you sign in it's saved to your account once.
Technical data. Like any website, our hosting providers receive your IP address and basic request information when the app loads.
Where it's stored
Birdie Bank saves your data on your device first, so it works with no signal. If you sign in, it's also saved to your account on our servers so you can use it on other devices. If you don't sign in, your rounds stay on your device, except for rounds you share live.
Live shared rounds. When you share a round live, its players, course, games, stakes and scores are stored on our servers under a 6-letter code. Anyone with that code or link can view and score that round, so only share it with your group. You can stop sharing at any time.
How we use it
- To run the app: keep score, work out the games and the money, and keep your tab.
- To sync your data across your devices and to the people in a shared round.
- To read your suggestions and fix bugs, and to reply if you left an email.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to find and fix crashes.
- To see how the app is used (how often groups play, what people use) and which creators send people to it, so we know what to build and where to spend.
We don't sell or rent your information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers below, or when the law requires it.
Service providers
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and file storage, in the United States.
- Vercel hosts the app.
- Google handles "Continue with Google" sign-in, if you use it.
- BigDataCloud turns your position into a town name when you tap "Courses near me," and receives your IP address with it.
- GolfCourseAPI provides course scorecards. Searches reach it through our server, so it doesn't receive your IP address or location, only the course or town name searched.
- Sentry receives crash reports, as described above, in the United States.
- PostHog receives the usage counts, as described above, in the United States.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr serve the app's fonts and icons, so they receive your IP address when the app loads.
Payment links open Venmo or other payment apps directly. Birdie Bank doesn't send them your information, and what you do there is covered by their own privacy policies.
Money
Birdie Bank tracks friendly wagers between friends. It never holds, sends or collects money, and it never asks for bank or card details.
Your choices
- See and change your data in the app at any time.
- Back it up to a file from Settings.
- Stop crash reports and usage counts any time with "Share usage data" in Settings. It's on unless you switch it off.
- Delete your account and data by emailing design@trevornielsen.com from the address you signed in with. We'll delete it within 30 days. Data on your device can be erased from Settings.
- Google access can be removed any time from your Google Account's security settings.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Live shared rounds may be removed after 30 days without activity. Suggestions, bug reports, crash reports and usage counts are kept while they're useful for improving the app.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Your account data can only be read by you, and access to our servers is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Age
Birdie Bank is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a minor has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app.
